Go karts are like Wes Welker, in that they're small, and quick, and you shouldn't be at all ashamed if somebody sees you riding one. Taking karting where it's never been: Pole Position Raceway, now open in Frisco.
Originally outta SoCal, "P2R" was co-founded by a 3x land-speed record holder, is backed by pros like Kurt Busch and Jeremy McGrath, and is enthused about by no less than Bart Scott, who gives them the thumbs up instead of the finger. The 50000sqft facility houses a challenging modular course, 10ft screens for following the action, and an arcade complete with air hockey, so, you know, you'll be able to win at something. The deal:
What you'll drive: They spent $10m to make these 18hp electrics "accelerate quicker and handle better than any other indoor competition kart on the planet", with top speeds of 45mph, great throttle response, low-end torque for coming out of turns, and absolute uniformity between karts, providing competitive balance without totally screwing over the Houston Rockets.
What you'll drive them on: The track's laid out with moveable plastic barriers that give when you inevitably hit them, and allow the course to change periodically. You can walk in and race whoever's around, team up with friends for a 60-90min endurance run, or sign up for a tougher-than-it-sounds Ironman where you sprint 30min straight while stopping only once to change karts -- again, an absolutely identical one, which you can call Julian Edelman.
