Solar Tower, All 540 Feet, Rises In Nevada Desert

The gray cylinder rising 540 feet skyward in the Nevada desert looks like a giant smokestack. But it’s actually something quite different—a new kind of tower for a new kind of power plant. The literal centerpiece of the 110-megawatt Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Plant near Tonopah, Nev., the tower was completed this month.


By the end of 2013 the tower will receive the reflected, concentrated solar heat from thousands of giant heliostats.
The Swiss Space Center recently announced the launch of CleanSpace One, a project to develop satellites specially designed to clean up space debris. 

Few know that there’s a floating junk yard forming in space, thousands of miles above our heads. Every time we go on a space mission, elements are jettisoned before the craft reaches its final destination. This space “junk” is left behind when the rocket or satellite eventually returns to Earth. As a result, there is a large amount of debris orbiting the Earth

The CERV is a lightweight, all-wheel drive diesel-electric hybrid that with a top speed of 80 mph.
