Dear Indiana,
I just got off the phone with a Walmart Store Manager in California, who said he received our petition delivery from one of our supporters, and is sending it up to the corporate headquarters.
This is exciting news, and is part of a flurry of activity in the past few days around our petition deliveries to Walmart stores, including two great media stories: a video news clip from a petition delivery in Florida, and a Chicago Tribune article that says:
Walmart spokesperson Dianna Gee told the Tribune Wednesday that the retailer is aware of the petition and “we currently have no plans to carry it.”
When asked if that meant Walmart would not carry the sweet corn this summer when it is made available for the first time, Gee said “I don’t know. That decision has not been made...It would be premature to talk about that far ahead.”
Walmart is hearing us, but this means now is the time to ramp up the campaign and keep on the pressure so Walmart will reject Monsanto's GE Sweet Corn. Can you become a member of Food & Water Watch today to give us the resources we need to keep the pressure on Walmart?

February 23, 2011 Dear Indiana, I was shocked to find out that crops are now being genetically engineered to withstand "Agent Orange." We have to stop this craziness! Nearly 100,000 of our supporters like you have taken action to keep Monsanto's genetically engineered sweet corn off the grocery store shelves, but more and more GE crops, like Agent Orange corn, keep getting pushed through the approval process. Food & Water Watch is here to unite all of us who are against these untested, unlabeled science experiments, and to make our collective voice heard. But we need people like you to become members so we have the resources it takes to do this work. Can you become a member today by making a donation of $35 or more? In the last year alone, the USDA has approved nine new genetically engineered crops, including Monsanto's genetically engineered sweet corn, and they are considering the approval of 20 additional crops, including Dow's "Agent Orange" corn. We have slowed or stopped some new products, like GE salmon, but USDA makes it too easy for new GE crops to get approved. If we want to stop this rubber-stamp approval cycle, we need a national grassroots organizing campaign to bring people together and make our voices heard. That's just what Food & Water Watch is doing. We're bringing together concerned citizens like you from across the country to fight for good food, but we need the independent support of our members to make it happen. Starting today, we have over 500 activists who are delivering more than 70,000 petition signatures to their local Walmart stores. Together, we got more than 3,300 phone calls in to Walmart's customer service demanding that they not sell GE sweet corn. Walmart is hearing us... but we are up against Monsanto and other corporate giants who have seemingly endless resources to push their products. We need to fight them with everything we have. Will you help us win by becoming a member and donating $35 or more to fight GE foods? As a Food & Water Watch member, you’ll be on the frontlines of the fight to protect the food you eat and the water you drink. You’ll stay up-to-date on our efforts by receiving our members-only email tips on safe food and water, our quarterly print newsletter and regular updates about how you can help. Food & Water Watch will not compromise our principles. We don’t take ANY money from governments or corporations because those dollars come with strings attached. That’s why contributions from people like you are absolutely essential. Become a member today to help us keep GE foods off the shelves and off your plate: https://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/1185/p/salsa/donation/common/public/?donate_page_KEY=8364 Thanks for taking action, Wennonah Hauter Executive Director Food & Water Watch wenonah(at)fwwatch(dot)org |
