Help Save California's Wolves

Wolf in the crossfire of a fight over the ESA

Help bring wolves back to California.
Give today.

Dear Center Supporter,

Wolves are smart, fast, curious and strong.

It was inevitable that they'd find their way to California.

It is not inevitable, though, that they'll survive. The livestock industry has already vowed to kill any wolf it sees and is gearing up its lobbying machine to keep them out of the state.

Please help us secure a safe, permanent home for wolves in California by making a donation today to our California Wolf Fund.

When Journey, a wolf born in northeast Oregon, crossed into California in December, he ushered in a new era of wolf recovery, opening the door to what the Center for Biological Diversity has long hoped for: the establishment of a large, healthy wolf population in California.

But as he crossed that invisible line between Oregon and California, Journey lost his state protection. The Center has a plan to secure state protection for Journey in California, as well as for the wolves that will inevitably follow -- but we need your help to make it happen. Please donate to our California Wolf Fund to give wolves a future in California.

That's right: Wolves aren't protected under California's Endangered Species Act. They were killed off or driven out of the state 80 years ago by the livestock industry. Then they were forgotten by state wildlife officials. With the exception of conservation groups, no one wanted or planned for wolves to come back.

Journey's thousand-mile trek through a sea of mountains, canyons and wilderness has given us the opportunity to re-establish wolves in California's remote northern forests, coastal mountains and the vast Sierra Nevada range.

The Center stopped the killing of wolves in Oregon and kept wolves on the federal endangered species list in the northern Rockies and Great Lakes long enough to build the population to several thousand.
It's vital that we have a population that can anchor wolf recovery in the West, especially as wolves are coming under fire elsewhere.

Please help us pay for this critical work by donating today to our California Wolf Fund. With your help, we will bring wolves back to California. The first step is getting them state protection.

Thanks for your support
,

P.S. We're at a critical moment to secure a safe haven for wolves in California. The Center has been fighting for more than two decades to win protection for wolves using our unique brand of legal, political, media and organizing work. With your support now, we'll work to do it again for California's wolves. Please make a generous gift today and share this appeal with your friends.
