10 Photography Tips for Enthusiasts

When PCMag Camera Analyst Jim Fisher wrote "10
Photography Tips for Beginners" a few weeks back, we got
great feedback from readers, but some of you wanted a
little bit more depth. Jim is back with some tips that
should raise the game of even veteran photographers. And
if you can think of anything he missed, leave it in the
comments section. Safe shooting.

It's 10pm ... Do You Know What Your Kids Are Posting on
Facebook?

As the stepfather of a 17-year-old boy, this is a question
I ask myself nightly. Just about every evening
(post-homework, of course) he is in his room streaming
Netflix and checking Facebook. There are occasional
guffaws, but mostly I just hear a steady stream of
furious keyboard-pounding. At this point, even if I
knew what he was writing, it would take some
deciphering. If you want to understand what your kids
are doing on Facebook, here are the top terms you need
to know.

Windows Phone 8 detailed: It's like Windows 8, but not
quite

Here at PCMag, we are eagerly awaiting the launch of
Windows 8 this fall and it seems like Windows Phone 8
will be rolling out at the same time. Although Windows
8 is almost guaranteed to be a success, Windows Phone 8
will have a long way to go to catch iOS or Android. That
said, the early plans look promising. ExtremeTech.com
has the details.

Russian drilling team close to reaching Antarctic lake
hidden for 14 million years

I have been following this story for more than a year
and it looks like the big day will be next week. There
are only about 40 feet of ice between the drill bit and
body of water that hasn't seen the light of day for 14
million years. Very cool. Did I mention there is a chance
that a pressure imbalance could set off a geyser capable
of spewing enough primordial fluid into the Antarctic
atmosphere to alter the weather on the entire continent?
Very scary. Geek.com has the details as of right now.
Hit the site next week for more and keep your fingers
crossed this turns out well.

Symantec Retracts Android Malware Claims to Align With
Lookout

Symantec may be retracting its malware claims for
Android.Counterclank, but I have to say it looks like
malware to me. What does it do? According to
SecurityWatch, it "contains code that can modify your
homepage, place search icons on the mobile desktop, add
bookmarks without your knowledge, and push out ads
through the notifications bar." Sounds like malware to
me.
