The Playbook
Make It Rainey: The Blackheart
86 Rainey St; Downtown
From a pair of nightlife vets formerly tied to Beauty Bar and the ND, this shanty-chic, NOLA-style spot is situated inside a refurnished 1886 Rainey St home adorned with votive-candle-lit nude B&Ws of Storyville women-of-the-night. You'll be imbibing high-end whiskeys ranging from the entire Johnnie Walker stash to local Garrison Brothers, as well as concoctions like the vermouth/Jack Honey/Bulleit Rye "Gold Rush", which can be enjoyed by both the Working Man and those with Big Money.
Rush has had, like, 379 gold albums! Get the gold on this bar right here.

Protect This City: Kong Screenprinting
Now that Southby's passed and you've had all the Brooklyn/LA you can handle, show your allegiance to our fair city with a tee that flips the ACL logo ("Limit Austin City"), or go even more straightforward by wearing "Welcome To Austin, Please Don't Move Here", followed by the fine-printed quip "I hear Dallas is Great!"
For the bushy-lipped they're also rocking a tee that reads "With great mustache comes great responsibility". See it at their online shop.

Famous Tacos Migrate: Tamale House East
1707 E 6th St; Central East; 512.495.9504
Helmed by the third generation of the Tamale House family (nephew of the Airport Blvd owner, grandson of the original 1st & Congress lady), this east-side spot is tucked on a patio between what used to be Graze and some railroad tracks, offering the same famous $1.25 breakfast tacos as well as an expanded selection of chalupas, breakfast plates (huevos rancheros, tomatillo chilaquiles), and dinners like carne guisada, enchiladas, and frito pies, which'll have you wanting to Lay down.

Stock Up: East Side Supply Co
1105 E 6th St; Central East; 512.535.1343
The South Side Sanctuary screenprinters have opened a small boutique next to Bird's, where they're peddling new tees adorned with Barton Springs and CoA storm-sewer covers, shirts from outside designers like nuevo-westerners Fine Southern Gentlemen, and ATXentricities like the Pedicab Pinup calendar and Steve Mattern pipes, whose clockwork-like designs in no way mean you'll have any idea what time it is after using them. Oh right, it's 4:20.

Freshen Up: Collective Status
516 E 6th St; Dirty 6th; 512.480.0088
Now in the hands of Fresh Hustle Entertainment, the former Sole Fresco has upped the fashion ante with new brands like the sticky-icky-centric D9 Reserve (named after the active chemical in weed), the day-glo, faux-nautical wear of Pink Dolphin, and braggadocio-tees from LA's Dope Couture emblazoned with slogans like "We Control the Night", "We Control The Knight" being wearable only by Underground Kings.
They're also rocking wooden sunglasses from Schwood and hip-hop-quoting tees from Rocksmith. See what's new at CollectiveStatus.com.
