Calves and Piglets and Chicks, Oh My!

Cuteness has descended upon Bobolink once again!
As of sunset tonight, we had five calves on the ground: two female, three male,
three brown, one black, and one harlequin, complete with mime whiteface with teardrop!

We also have nine piglets, who are busily digging our garden for us, while devouring
a mountain of stale bread, table scraps, and about 100 lbs of cheesey wine must
from the freezer.
There are about 28 chicks in the farm store, who are g-r-o-w-i-n-g quickly.

And, with weather in the 70s yesterday and today, the grasses and clovers are up,
along with the wild garlic.
Speaking of wild garlic, I made a small batch of pate de campagne with wild garlic
and candy cap mushrooms--there should still be some in the farm store on the weekend.

Springtime Bread Sale
As we crank things up to our springtime baking schedule, the economies of scale
bring down our costs a bit. So, we are pleased to offer a bread sale: $1 off of
all loaves over $4, and fifty cents off on the small stuff, at the farm, at our
farmer's markets, and online.
The bread sale is effective immediately, and will continue through the weekend.

Bobolink's Beltane Festival, Sunday May 13: music, food, and more
Come and celebrate the return of vernal fecundity with an afternoon of food, ale
and music at the farm. We'll have the big tent set up, with the cows grazing in
the background, and there will roast suckled veal, pastured poultry, plenty of roasted
winter and spring vegetables and other gleanings, and we'll also be cutting the
first wheel of the new year's cheeses!
Tickets are $50, which includes food, drink, music, and a grand tour of the farm.

Bobolink Matzoh Making Workshops

Come and make matzoh in our wood-fired oven!
Using ancient Emmer flour,the biblical ancestor of wheat, we mix, roll and bake
our dough, getting the job done in under the traditional 18 minutes.
With the intense heat stored in the hearth, they crisp up and get golden in seconds,
little round matzot, which come out looking like they were baked on a hot rock in
the Sinai!
This is very much a hands-on event, and even small children are welcome. This is
an ideal event for grandparents and grandchildren to do together, and cooking with
your grandkids is a vital but endangered human cultural institution.

guaranteed to be 100% rabbinical-certification free!
This class is recommended for children over 2, and each child under 7 must have

The mild weather in November has afforded us a really nice selection of late autumn
cheeses that are now ready! We''ll also still have some of our "ugly" 100% grass-fed
beef at a 25% discount, and some pork chops, roasts, scrapple, etc.
We also have a decent stock of Hudson Valley Duck's cured duck products, and Max
Hanson's amazing smoked salmon.
The Farm Store is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 12-6

Pauly and Jonathan will be serving a tasting of our breads and cheeses in the VIP
section. This is a great tasting event, with about 25 restaurants, plus another
couple dozen brewers, artisans, etc. It is a fundraiser for Fair Food Philly's
various food and farm programs.

Patternmaker/costumer for sale or rent
While we are on the subject of Pauly, Pauly is looking for a job as a patternmaker,
costumer, custom tailor, or other sartorial position. Growing up with a dancer
for a mother, Pauly began using a sewing machine at age seven, and has never stopped,
which makes 17 years of experience!
Areas of specialization include handsewing and embroidery, simple jewelry-making,
pattern-drafting, and researching and constructing clothing from a variety of geographical
areas and historical periods thereof. Pauly has also done backstage costume work
(both design and construction) at most of the schools, summer camps and colleges
he has attended in the past decade, all with good reviews.

knows what a day's work is!
