Three partners who've held it down at The Victory, Bunk Bar, and Olympic Provisions just opened Free House, because he totally didn't mean to crash that car into Cuddy's place while on painkillers, let him go! which's delivering cocktails that're "amazing versions of simple things", oomphed-up bar food, and rustic digs sporting a white-subway-tiled open kitchen, covered patio, and seating beneath the painted gaze of two "dueling Lincolns", who'll both watch you get shot down by female patrons.
Thanks to the beloved meat magicians at Olympic, the straightforwardly delicious menu begins with charcuterie boards of saucisson d'arles, loukanika salamis, chorizos, country-style pate, and more, before getting to mac n' cheese w/ house-smoked Tillamook cheddar & fried Tabasco onions, and foot-long dogs that're bunned w/ housemade pickles & ketchup after being charred on the flat top, at least as long as Chris Mullin doesn't start complaining.
Cocktails also stay simple if a bit less understated, including the tequila/ Campari/ agave/ chocolate bitters Dog License, the Froghair (combining a housemade Batavia Arrack-based Swedish Punch w/ aquavit & orange bitters), and an even simpler maraschino liqueur/ Fernet/ gin Flying Elbow, an attack sure to bring John Wilkes out of his Booooooooth.
