Good morning Andrew,
Markets turned lower in overnight trading in the wake of negative manufacturing data out of China and Europe.....China's Purchasing Managers Index of Manufacturing (PMI) clocked in at 48.1; down from February's 49.6....Any reading below 50 represents a contraction in the manufacturing sector.....Meanwhile; Europe's version of PMI also disappointed with a reading of 47.7 versus expectations of 49.6....Not a good way to start the day.....
In stock market activity Euro-zone averages are down 1-1.5%.....Domestically the Dow is being indicated to open 60 points lower, adding on to yesterday's loss of 46.......The Dow is now teetering at the psychological 13,000 level
The weak manufacturing data is also being felt in the energy markets where Crude oil sits at $106.07 down $1.20 per barrel......The Euro currency is down 47/100ths of a U.S. cent at $1.3162......
In London metals we find Silver changing hands at $31.91 off 33 cents......Gold and Palladium are both lower by $13.00 at $1637.00 and $679.00 respectively.....Platinum is $1624.00 off $18.00 per ounce.....
The early negative sentiment might improve depending on this morning's U.S. economic data stream.......Initial Weekly Jobless Claims are expected to be 355,000 versus last week's 351,000.....Leading Economic Indicators are estimated to be up .6% versus up .4%....The data looks mixed but traders will be more sensitive to the claims numbers.....
In other news; in France the 23-year-old Frenchman who claimed responsibility for the killings of four men and three children died on today after jumping from a balcony as security forces stormed the apartment where had been holed up for more than 30 hours.... ....Across the Pacific we are getting some new sword rattling out of North Korea after it declared that any statement emerging from the forthcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul that is critical of its nuclear weapons program will be "considered a declaration of war"......What a day.......That's it.....
