IFeelCook made these adorable butter cookies shaped like matchsticks. It required careful cutting, because the cookies have to bake square to look right in the box. A bit of frosting on the tips and they’re ready to eat.

Do Big Cats Like Easter Eggs?

We know how they feel about pizza, mirrors and pumpkins, but how do they feel about Easter? As it turns out, big kitties like their special eggs just as much as house cats love it when you drop a chicken egg on the kitchen floor.

Scrambled Cadbury Creme Eggs

End up with too many Cadbury Creme Eggs this Easter? Well, there’s more than one way to munch a creme egg. In fact, Cakespy suggests scrambling yours and serving with sliced donut home fries and pound cake toast. Sure it’s a heart attack waiting to happen, but it’s certainly a sweet way to die.

These pugs are the most thugalicious pups I’ve ever seen and, as a result, they made what is probably the best music video ever. There is a bit of language in the song, but I that can be easily excused when the rappers are this cute.

Barbie’s Abandoned Family Members

The Quietest Place on Earth Can Drive You Mad in Less Than an Hour

Posted: 08 Apr 2012 05:54 PM PDT

Photo: Steven Orfield/Orfield Labs

If you think that loud noises drive you mad, try this quiet room for a change.

The anechoic chamber at Orfield Laboratories in South Minneapolis, certified as the quietest place on Earth by the Guinness World Records, is so quiet that the longest anyone has survived being in there is just 45 minutes:

‘When it’s quiet, ears will adapt. The quieter the room, the more things you hear. You'll hear your heart beating, sometimes you can hear your lungs, hear your stomach gurgling loudly.

‘In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound.’

And this is a very disorientating experience. Mr Orfield explained that it’s so disconcerting that sitting down is a must.

He said: ‘How you orient yourself is through sounds you hear when you walk. In the anechnoic chamber, you don't have any cues. You take away the perceptual cues that allow you to balance and manoeuvre. If you're in there for half an hour, you have to be in a chair.’

Spock Is Not Impressed

Posted: 08 Apr 2012 03:28 PM PDT

It's not easy to impress the human/Vulcan hybrid whose full lineal name is not pronunciable by mere mortals. After all, compared to death and resurrection, not to mention meeting himself in an alternate timeline amongst other adventures, nothing much impressed Spock.

If he were to stumble upon this Tumblr blog featuring Spock looking blasé in various scenarios, I think it'd be safe to say that the Starfleet Science Officer/Captain/Ambassador would not be impressed in the least: Link - via Design You Trust

Beer with Frozen Foam

Posted: 08 Apr 2012 02:07 PM PDT

What do you get when you cross an ice cream machine and beer? Japanese beer brewer Kirin came up with this idea to keep your ice-cold brew stay cold longer: beer with frozen foam.

From PSFK:

The variant, called “Ichiban Shibori Frozen Draft,” features cold Kirin beer topped with frozen beer foam created using a process called Frozen Agitation, wherein air is blown into the beer as it is stirred and chilled.

The foam is very cold at -5 degrees celcius, which, according to Kirin, can help keep the beer below it ice-cold for roughly thirty minutes.

How many times should they jump the General Lee in an episode? The correct answer is “more”.

How Las Vegas Almost Built a 1:1 Scale Model of the Enterprise

Posted: 08 Apr 2012 01:16 PM PDT

According to Danny of the Goddard Group, an entertainment design firm, Las Vegas almost built the greatest architectural marvel in human history. It was 1992, and the Star Trek franchise was thriving. Downtown Las Vegas had lost a lot of business to the Strip. Developers wanted a way to lure tourists back, and they had plenty of space in which to do it.

They wanted high class, high rolling customers that would bring a touch of style and panache to downtown. In other words, Trekkies. So Danny proposed building a (non-functional) replica of the Enterprise. Inside the nearly three hundred meter length model would be sets from the ship and shows for visitors.

The developers and the mayor were on board with the idea. Alas, some executives at Paramount balked, and the deal fell through.

Easter Bilby

Posted: 08 Apr 2012 10:53 AM PDT

Happy Easter, Neatoramanauts - but instead of Easter Bunny, how about if you celebrate with the chocolate Easter Bilby instead?

Bilbies, the Australian marsupials have the prerequisite large ears and are no slouch in the cute department. They were almost wiped out when European settlers introduced rabbits to the arid Australian grasslands some 200 years ago. Those aggressive rabbits pushed the bilbies out of their burrows, and they got preyed upon by foxes and feral cats. At one point, there were only about 600 bilbies left in the wild.

Recently, the bilbies are making a comeback by invading the rabbit's turf as the symbol of Easter. Ah, the irony:

In 1968, a 9-year-old girl in Queensland, Rose-Marie Dusting, wrote a story, "Billy The Aussie Easter Bilby," which she published as a book 11 years later. The story helped catalyze the public's interest in saving the bilby, and by 1991, the Foundation for Rabbit-Free Australia began their Easter Bilby campaign to replace the Easter bunny with true native wildlife.

"It seemed ludicrous to be promoting an introduced rabbit in a positive way as the 'Easter bunny,'" says Paton.

Soon chocolate makers caught on and began selling chocolate bilbies. Haigh's Chocolates and Darrell Lea continue to earmark proceeds to the candy's real-life counterparts.

Funds from chocolate sales have gone to anti-rabbit campaigns, as well as to projects that fence in thousands of acres of land to keep them free of cats and foxes, so that bilbies can be re-introduced. The money "goes a long way to helping pay for the construction of predator-proof fencing, captive breeding and labor-intensive monitoring," says Emily Miller, a biologist at the University of Sydney.

Sarah Zielinski of NPR's The Salt food blog has the story: Link

Why Are Chocolate Easter Bunnies Hollow?

Posted: 08 Apr 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Many of us remember the first time we got a large chocolate rabbit in our Easter baskets and were disappointed to find it was only a hollow shell of chocolate. Are candy companies trying to teach us a lesson in disillusionment and distrust?

Of course not. The answer is simple, according to one chocolate maker: hollow bunnies are easier to eat.

"If you had a larger-size bunny and it was solid chocolate, it would be like a brick; you'd be breaking teeth," says Mark Schlott, vice-president of operations at R.M. Palmer in Reading, Pennsylvania, one of the first and largest manufacturers of hollow chocolate bunnies.

And, of course, hollow is usually cheaper to make, though Schlott phrases it more delicately: "Hollow has a greater perceived value. It creates a much greater chocolate footprint than solid."

Well, that answers that, but you’ll find the complete history of the chocolate Easter bunny, no matter how hollow, at Smithsonian’s Food & Think blog. Link
