The Bar Key
Mellow imbibing returns to North PB
954 Turquoise St; North Pacific Beach; 858.488.8200
Celebrated Cuban poet José Martí once wrote, "A genuine man goes to The Roots. To be radical is no more than that: to go to The Roots", but to be fair, he died way before they started gigging w/ Jimmy Fallon. Returning to his roots to make an old booze spot radical again, the genuine man behind Bar Key.
Re-purchasing the bar he once sold to some dude who probably doesn't even read Cuban poetry, the former Froggy's owner (and a couple of pals) has set about reviving the North PB fave with a new menu, a new lounge in the back, and five flatscreens squeezed in to replace the randomly interspersed frogs and classic rock posters. Because BK knows how you did on the SATs, they've kept the menu relatively simple, so gluttony is to Bar Key is to... whatever, they've got 13 flavors of wings ranging from BBQ Mint to Mango Fire, and bar classics like a nod-to-the-Redwings burger called the Zetter... burger. They also stuff tortillas with pork butt/ Black Forest ham/ Swiss/ teriyaki, to jalapenos/ chorizo/ pepper jack/ cheddar/ carne asada, and deep-fry it all to form their specialty Disco Biscuits -- eat enough and you may find out why disco is dead.
To wash down those Disco Biscuits, opt for a full complement of booze repped by a decent selection of top-shelf tequilas, five vinos, and 10 taps pouring rarities like Ayinger's Celebrator and Lindemans Framboise Raspberry Lambic, whose tangy drinkability is always a valuable asset in any Quest(4)love.
They don't have a site up and running as of yet, so stay tuned to their Facebook page for all the happening happenings
