What Would Jesus Glue?
Seatown artist ponders the age-old question
Available at Tasty: 7513 Greenwood Ave N; Greenwood; 206.706.3020
Somehow coming up with an answer that doesn't involve "a bed for my mom, so she doesn't f-ing birth me in a pile of hay", What Would Jesus Glue turns out comic book-inspired collages that're just slightly sweeter than the ones you made in Mrs. Battan's 2nd grade class, and meant to explore the heightened tension between religion, politics & pop culture felt by an artist who used to be a minister, presumably until someone told him, "Rev Run".
WWJG's latest wood-panel-backed works include:
Closing Time: Having already brought dinosaurs, talking apes, and Jesus himself through space and time, a group of scientists cluster around a portal that exposes the true focus of their time travel experiments -- a young Kim Basinger -- while wondering if anyone knows how the machine works, despite the fact they've been at it for at least 9 1/2 Weeks.
Tapered Shirts: This '50s-inspired number is backed by an ad for its titular shirts, and ponders the pressures young female comic characters feel in the face of male sexual aggression. Meanwhile, the women who see this handsome piece on your wall will just ponder how they can become the subject of yours.
Iron Man & Iron Woman: An injured Iron Man questions why he took the job of being a superhero, while a '50s lady ironing clothes retorts that she's the one doing all the work, though if she didn't then What Would Jesus Wear?
And these are just the safe-for-work collages! Wait 'til you hit WWJG's Flickr.
