Managed Services and Cloud-Based Delivery May Factor into Widespread Adoption of Unified Communications Technologies

New research from CompTIA (News - Alert) indicates unified communications solutions providers that utilize managed services and cloud-based delivery models may play a major role in the widespread adoption of unified communications technologies. The findings were part of CompTIA's Second Annual Unified Communications (News - Alert) Market Trends study.


The study was based on a March 2012 online survey of 500 IT and business executives involved in setting or executing telecommunications and unified communications policies and processes within their organizations.

Of the companies surveyed, four out of five perceive additional value in the idea of unified communications, with large and medium-sized companies as well as those with a higher proportion of telecommunications workers being the most bullish about the technology. Communications and collaboration solutions budgets are also increasing or keeping pace with other technology priorities at 85 percent of the companies surveyed by CompTIA.


Some of the challenges identified for wider spread adoption of unified communications include integrating new tools with existing technologies, calculating return on investment, and how to incorporate features like mobility, social networking, collaboration and video conferencing. The survey also found that a human element may hold back broader adoption, with employees tending to use only the most familiar options within organizations offering a wide range of communication tools.
