Most Wanted Domains reports $100k+ in domain sales in 10 days

Posted: 31 May 2012 04:58 PM PDT

As reported by DNN earlier, Most Wanted Domains recently started reporting their domain sales in real time via Facebook and Twitter. Exactly 10 days ago the first domain sale was announced, which was AllTricks.com selling for $13,500. During the past week and a half alone, they have already scored 8 domain sales for a total of $108,250. The highest priced domain was DailyBreaks.com which sold for a cool $25,000. Below you can find the complete list of all of the domains reported as sold by MWD on Twitter.

  1. Hallyday.com sold for $2,500.00
  2. DearPrudence.com sold for $4,250.00
  3. NaturalDifference.com sold for $10,000.00
  4. Crackon.com sold for $11,500.00
  5. AllTricks.com sold for $13,500.00
  6. MilitaryLawyer.com sold for $17,500.00
  7. LoveGold.com sold for $24,000.00
  8. DailyBreaks.com sold for $25,000.00

Most Wanted Domains is owned and operated by Worldwide Media Incorporated, a Florida corporation that is privately held. Popular domain industry blogger Michael Berkens owns the Florida/North Carolina based domain holding company, which currently has over 80,000 domains in it’s portfolio.

Anybody want to take a guess at how many domains will be reported sold by MWD in the month of June and for how much total? So far in May, with the little data that was made available, it seems that there was about one sale per day on average.

New TLDs: DirectI Forms Radix, Applies for 31 new TLDs

Posted: 31 May 2012 10:46 AM PDT

Despite ICANN’s “reveal day” where the list of new TLD applications received will be published being scheduled only for June 13th, many of the applicants feel it’s appropiate to reveal their applications today – a day after the TLD Application Window closed.

The DirectI group of companies applied for a total of 31 generic and industry vertical TLDs, paying close to $6 million dollars in application fees.  The company created a new subsidiary called “Radix” to submit the application for the following TLDs:

web, .shop, .bank, .law, .music, .news, .blog, .movie, .baby, .store, .doctor, .hotel, .play, .home .site, .website, .click, .online, .one, .ping, .space, .world, .press, .chat, .city, .deals, .insurance .loans, .app, .host, and .hosting

Directi Group Applies for Thirty-one Top-Level Domain strings in the ICANN process

Under its new venture ‘Radix’, invests over $30m towards TLD Applications

Austin, TX and Dubai, UAE – May 31, 2012 – Directi Group, a global leader in Internet products and Web services, today announced its ambitious effort to secure Top-Level Domains (TLDs) under ICANN’s program to expand the Internet’s addressing system. Under its new brand – Radix – Directi has committed over $30 million on the application of 31 strings comprising several generic and mass market names.

"This is a historic moment in the evolution of the Internet," said Bhavin Turakhia, founder and CEO of Directi Group. "We have invested a significant amount of time and resources to developing intelligent, responsible, secure and thorough proposals for what could serve as the foundation for this new era on the Internet."

Directi's list of 31 applications includes: .web, .shop, .bank, .law, .music, .news, .blog, .movie, .baby, .store, .doctor, .hotel, .play, .home .site, .website, .click, .online, .one, .ping, .space, .world, .press, .chat, .city, .deals, .insurance .loans, .app, .host, and .hosting

A brief description of their plans and policies for these new extensions can be found on their website: www.radixregistry.com.

“Today’s internet addresses are uncategorized and say nothing about the website. In addition, it is near impossible to find available names that are short and memorable. Our research shows that over 65% of users are unable to find a name of their choice. We welcome the opportunity to usher in an era where internet addresses distinguish a plumber from a lawyer and domain names with hyphens are a thing of the past.” said Bhavin.

The experienced teams at Directi and Radix have spent almost two years developing policies and procedures specific to each major category of extensions – Financial Services, Legal, Social & Healthcare, Ecommerce and Generic. The team has pioneered industry leading abuse protection policies and creative rights protection mechanisms to help safeguard trademark holders.

Turakhia continued, "As one of the world’s top ten registrars, we equally understand our ability to make a sizable contribution towards curbing Internet abuse and believe that mitigating potential threats is one of our foremost responsibilities. For the new TLDs, we have created policies, processes and services that go significantly above and beyond our obligations and aim to make domain names and the Internet, a safer experience for the internet community."

Directi runs some of the largest and most successful domain name registrars and Web hosting companies in the world. It is known for its success in building high performance Web services solutions among its various business units including ResellerClub, Media.net, LogicBoxes, BigRock, Skenzo and WebHosting.info.

New Zealand’s domain name commission proposes .NZ second level registrations

Posted: 30 May 2012 10:04 AM PDT

The .NZ DNCL just announced the proposal of extending the .nz domain name space by allowing anybody to register domains at the “second level”.  This has the potential to significantly alter New Zealand's domain name space, so the NZ domain name commission is now actively looking for feedback and submissions to get your views on the latest proposal. Key features of the .NZ proposals include the following:

  • Registration of .nz domain names could be at the second or third levels on an ongoing basis.
  • Existing second level domains (such as .co.nz) will remain and continue to be supported.
  • There will be no impact on any currently registered .nz domain names.
  • Registrations at the second level will be on a "first come, first served" basis, except during the Sunrise Period and where there are currently multiple registrations of the same name in different second level domains.
  • The Sunrise Period will be a designated window, where existing .nz domain name holders (registrants) can register their domain name/s at the second level if they are the only one that has that name at the third level.
  • If two or more domain name holders have the same name at the third level, no-one  will be able to register that name at the second level unless they obtain the consent of the other third level name holders. Alternatively, if all agree, it could become a second level domain instead.
  • A temporary amendment to the Dispute Resolution Service Policy to cover sub-domains of generic domain names registered at the second level.

The “consultation paper” which is available for download right here provides in-depth details about what is being proposed.  It also includes marked up versions of the main policies affected so that people can get an indication of how it may be implemented.

Each section of the consultation paper raises specific questions.  The DNCL asks for individuals to respond to these questions or to any of the issues raised through the online response form. Submissions can also be made by e-mail to policies@dnc.org.nz, by fax to (04) 495 2115, or by postal mail to P O Box 11881, Wellington. The closing date for feedback and submissions is on September 27, 2012.

As of this writing, there are 484,758 active .NZ domain registrations according to the New Zealand Registry Services website. This includes .co.nz, .ac.nz, .geek.nz , .gen.nz, .maori.nz , .net.nz, .org.nz, .school.nz, .cri.nz , .govt.nz, .iwi.nz, .parliament.nz, .mil.nz and .health.nz.
