This week in MBA Express

Dear Reader:

While the bulk of MBA graduates continue to pursue careers in finance and consulting, a growing number seem to be drifting into the "other" wedge of the pie chart whether by choice or necessity. Many are starting their own businesses, quite a few are pursuing careers in social entrepreneurship, and some even believe the only thing that stands between a dysfunctional government and a well-oiled governing machine are a few well-placed MBAs. But fashion?

As Alison Damast reports, small and not-so-small fashion houses are scrambling to find MBA talent that can help them grow, develop a more sophisticated online presence, or take advantage of social media. The numbers are small, but MBA job postings are up, more students are taking part in job treks, and more students with an entrepreneurial bent are choosing to stake their claim in the fashion world. I don't know if an MBA gives anyone an eye for fashion, but if anyone can figure out a way to make vintage t-shirts profitable, B-school grads would be on the short list.
