Create a Home Environment of Happiness & Blessedness
The Family The Family

The Family is an uncompromising vision statement for the domestic bliss and cultural dominion of the Christian family. The message of The Family is powerful: Sisters, Brothers, Husbands, Wives Home life is meant to be beautiful, ennobling, and victorious! God intends for each person, from parent to child, to play a role in family life, the ultimate goal of which is the transformation of the individual, the home, and the society for the glory of God. Miller writes truth that we need to hear but are usually too afraid to say. He carefully addresses each member of the family, managing to find the perfect balance between inspiration and exhortation.

First, he addresses the marriage relationship: The married life is meant to be the happiest, fullest, purest, richest life. It is Gods own ideal of completeness. He then instructs the husband and the wife: Every true-hearted husband should seek to be worthy of the wife he has already won. A true wife makes a mans life nobler, stronger, grander, by the omnipotence of her love turning all the forces of manhood upward and heavenward.

With regard to the brother and sister relationship, never has there been as pure a description as here. Miller asks, Why should not a brother make a confidante of his own sister rather than of any other? Why should not a sister look to her own brother for counsel, for protection, for advice, rather than to any other?

In other words, Miller points out that in creating a home environment, or making a home, each member of the family plays an important role, and the fullest happiness and blessedness of the home can be attained only when each one's part is fulfilled faithfully. The husband as God-ordained leader has a part, all his own, which no other one can do; the wife has a special role; the children, the brothers, the sisters each has his own part. The Family is not a book just for mothers and fathers, it is quite literally a book written to every member of the family, from great-grandparents down to the youngest members. The family is one of the three spheres of government directly created by God (family, church, civil), and like the other two is completely dependent upon proper self-government of the individuals involved. A godly family does not "just happen" and it is certainly not due to "good genes." A godly family takes work, discipline, and love, and this book shows the way to begin to achieving this reality.
