Have you signed?

Hi Indiana,

Save
Junglistan from coal mining

Where are you? Over 40,000 people are waiting for you to take them closer to 100,000 signatures on this petition to save the forests of Central India from coal mining.[1]

We’ve lost a whopping Rs 1.86 lakh crores in a coal scam,[2] bigger than the 2G scam. Now we might just lose some of our most beautiful forests to coal mining. Unless we do something to save them.

You should ask the Prime Minister to stop all new coal block allocations and forest clearances until the coal scam has been investigated and there is a clear demarcation of areas that shouldn’t be mined. Then watch the latest account of Greenpeace activist Brikesh’s journey in the forests of Central India.

I am truly amazed at our government’s short-sightedness. What about the endangered tigers [3] and other wildlife like leopards and elephants in these forests? Have they thought about the people who depend on these forests for their living? Has anyone seen how renewable energy is becoming a viable energy option all over the world and in some states of our own country?[4]

The PM will be discussing questions like these in front the entire world, when he’ll host the United Nations’ Convention on Biodiversity in October. That’s when the petition with 100,000 signatures will be given to him. His commitment to saving our forests will be questioned in front the world. And he’ll have to have an answer.

October’s the deadline to get to 100,000 signatures.

Earlier this week, Greenpeace activists gave a direct message to the Government: defend forests and not the coal scam. Now we are getting ready to take-over Facebook and Twitter by talking about the coal scam and the need to save our forests all day. You can join us once you sign the petition.
