One of the things that get me most excited about stocks is when I'm able to catch one at just the right time. You know what I mean - the time when a stock is just starting its curve upward after achieving milestones or inflection points.  It gives one the confidence that a ship has been righted or is on the right path with limited downside and a great deal of upside.

 

A relatively unknown or misunderstood stock is even better because the potential returns tend to be that much greater.

 

KIT digital, Inc. (NASDAQ: KITD - $3.00) fits the bill to a tee. KITD is a leading video management software and services company.  In fact, industry research firm ABI Research recently released a report proclaiming KITD as the market leader for content management systems for media and entertainment companies, a market that is expected to double in the next five years.

Weather Creates Opportunity

In some circles it is considered a taboo subject.  However, there is no mistaking it. When major weather events strike, they have an impact on the global economy and stocks.

 

And they usually present a specific buying opportunity in the stock market.

 

Almost exactly 20 years ago, Hurricane Andrew - a category 5 hurricane - slammed into Florida, essentially leveling a number of small towns. I recall the vivid images of the destructive path it left in its wake. It was horrific and sad ... and was a major reason why certain commodities shot up in price shortly thereafter. Lumber, steel, orange juice and other commodities made a quick and sustained jump higher, while Home Depot (NYSE: HD) and Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) made huge gains as Floridians attempted to rebuild. As the cost estimates began to roll in, however, insurance stocks dropped sharply. 

 

At the time, Hurricane Andrew was the costliest hurricane ever in the U.S., with a price tag of more than $26 billion.
