Your nickname

Dear Friend,

If you've ever gone by a nickname, you may not be able to vote in November.

Sound absurd? It is. But it's the reality in states like Pennsylvania, where a new voter ID law could disqualify a voter named Robert if his driver's license says Bob. All told, the law could disenfranchise nearly 10 percent of voters.

ThinkProgress has been working around the clock to expose voter suppression and hold state officials accountable in key battlegrounds like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

But we can't do it without your help. We need to raise $30,000 before the GOP kicks off its convention on August 27 to get our reporters on the ground, asking the hard questions.

Please give $5–or whatever you can afford–to help ensure that every vote is counted.

Our work has a serious impact: ThinkProgress' reporting has been covered in news outlets from MSNBC to The New York Times and has helped put a stop to illegal voter purging in Florida. But there are more battles ahead.

750,000 Pennsylvanians could be denied the right to vote in 2012. In 2008, President Obama won the state by just 620,000 votes. We know every vote matters, but with millions of dollars being funneled into voter suppression, the stakes are higher than ever.

Since last year, more than 180 bills restricting voting were introduced in 41 states. It's an all-out assault on democracy and the legislators pushing these bills know it:

In June, Republican legislator Mike Turzai said that the voter ID law will "allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania."

We have to act now. Let Turzai and his cronies know that they can't get away with this. If we wait, it'll be too late.

Click here to donate $5 or more so that ThinkProgress can put a stop to voter suppression across the country.

With your support, we can ensure that more Americans know about the efforts to restrict voting in November.

Thanks,

Judd Legum
