Tried And True
A little redecorating for a Henderson tavern

2405 N. Henderson Ave; Knox-Henderson

Attention National Honor Society members, and also people who drink: NHS Tavern on Henderson is now Tried and True, which -- with its brick-and-wood walls, lights hanging from frayed ropes circling rusted pulleys, and sporting odes to the owner's Seattle roots (go Supersonics) -- looks like a very well-executed wharf dive, at least as far as Dallasites can tell, because what's a wharf? You'll also find shuffleboard, pool, a dangling Honda cafe racer, one hell of a sweet Hooper poster (Jan-Michael Vincent's best role, and also Burt Reynolds was good), and a back patio whose triangular tarp coverings are kinda reminiscent of the Denver airport. The sustenance:

Plates. Platters. Snacks.: Everything from farm eggs w/ corned beef or peppercorn brisket hash, to pork shoulder roast tacos, to whiskey pate, with crusty bread and pepper bacon relish backing up whipped livers.

Specials: Dailies count Wednesday's Snow Crab Legs, Quail Shoot & Catfish Fry Fridays, and Sunday's Fajitas All Day, which judging from his Week 1 performance was not Adrian Peterson's nickname during rehab.

Boozables: Jason Kosmas's 86 Co. hooch makes its way into tweaked classic cocktails, while brews range from rotating DEBC drafts, to Oskar Blues Old Chub, to Krombacher Pils. There's also a Boilermaker of the Day, or go straight up with 70+ whiskeys, notably Wisconsin's white Death's Door, Old Rip Van Winkle 10yr, and John E. Fitzgerald's 92-proof Larceny, something Supersonics fans know all about.
