Announces $175M in Funding to Drive Manufacturing Education and Training Programs » Free Cyber Courses for Grandma   From The Expert Corner September 26, 2012 The Complete RoboPlay Guide to Everything By Tabitha Naylor, Contributing Writer The National Science Foundation awarded two new grants totaling $1.25 million to the University of California Davis to support studies of the impact of robotics in teaching science, technology, engineering and math to students from elementary to high school. Harry Cheng, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and director of the UC Davis K-14 Outreach Center for Computing and STEM Education will lead both projects.   He stated, "Introducing computing and robotics into the math and science curriculum helps make abstract ideas concrete and allows students to apply mathematical concepts to real world problems." On Oct. 13-14, a Fall Robotics Academy the C-STEM Center will hold a workshop for school teachers where they will be trained on how to use robots and advanced computing in their classrooms.
