Boca Raton, Fla. (Nov. 18, 2012) – The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional is now underway in Boca Raton, Fla. The six-day tournament, which will take place November 18-23, kicked off today with the 1995 and 1996 age groups starting the action at Spanish River Athletic Park.

Nearly 300 leading players selected from each of the four regions, in the Under-14 through Under-17 age groups, will be exposed to national staff and collegiate coaches, and will have the opportunity to demonstrate their playing abilities for selection to the next level of play.

More US Youth Soccer ODP players have been called into Youth National Team camps than any other ID program, including 129 of 148 players called into U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-18 camps since September 2011. US Youth Soccer ODP, the nation's original player identification program, has continued its tradition of elite competition and player development for more than 30 years, and is the only development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer and the Men’s and Women’s National Teams. Highlights from today's matches:

95 Girls: Region I v. Region IV

The first Girls ODP game saw the only tie of the day. Region I’s Kylie Hegimier opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute, but Region IV’s Elizabeth Boon scored the equalizer right upon closing the first half. There were no subsequent goals in the second half, producing a 1-1 result.

96 Girls: Region I v. Region II

In the tournament’s first 1996 match up, defender Cassie Phillips wasted no time, as she stepped on field and swiftly gave her Region II team the lead with her rapid 1st minute goal. Phillips’ speedy goal held strong for the remaining 89 minutes, and gave Region II a 1-0 win.

95 Girls: Region III v. Region II

Region II’s Elizabeth Bartels stood out today with her impressive hat trick. Bartels notched two back-to-back first-half goals in the 20th and 21st minute, supplementing her teammate Rose Ripslinger's 16th minute tally, and then finished the game by scoring once more in the final ten minutes. Region III was unable to show up on the scoreboard, so Region II took home a 4-0 victory.

96 Girls: Region III v. Region IV

The final game of the day saw a 1-0 Region IV win. The two teams played a scoreless first half, and couldn’t find the net until Region IV’s Chloe Hemingway broke the stalemate with her late-game heroics in the 88th minute.
