Kadavy is the author of the excellent Design for Hackers. We reviewed the book in MAKE's current issue. We're going to feature an excerpt from the book in near future. For now, here's an excerpt from his blog. It's good reading, especially makers. We're big on failure at MAKE. Not as a goal, but as part of the process of making itself.

Lindsay's Technical Books Ships Last Catalog

The last ever Lindsay Technical Books catalog, Serial #664.I think I was fourteen or fifteen when I received my first Lindsay's catalog, ordered from a print ad in the back pages of Popular Science or Popular Mechanics—I don't recall which. "Build Lightning Bolt Generators!" it trumpeted. "Melt Metal! Rediscover Lost Technology!" I clipped along the dotted line and sent $3.00, cash, through the US mail. I've been a regular buyer ever since.
