| Dear Indiana,
We don't win by being right; we win by demonstrating power. We at Food & Water Watch know that corporations — with their seemingly endless financial resources — have power over our elected officials, even when they're abusing our essential resources. But we do have the power to make change because we have something they don't have: people power. We are the ones that vote. We have the power to decide whether we want to keep someone in office. We just need to build and demonstrate that power. Can you help us keep building the power to protect our essential resources?
We're building power all across the country. We now have organizers in 16 offices working on state and local campaigns in at least 20 states. I wanted to share a few of their successes with you: Arsenic Ban in Maryland
In May, Maryland became the first state to pass a ban on arsenic in chicken feed. Over the last 60 years, industrial chicken producers have added arsenic — a known carcinogen— to chicken feed to promote growth and to improve meat pigmentation. But no longer.
With over 1,400 calls and 2,240 messages to Maryland legislators, over 1,870 messages to Governor O'Malley, and over 1,000 knocks on doors in a key district in Baltimore, we demonstrated the power necessary to compel elected officials to ban arsenic in chicken feed.
This isn't just Maryland's victory, this is your victory. By winning this campaign in Maryland, we're showing Big Ag and Big Pharm that we have the people power to take back control of our food and water. Will you help us keep winning by making a donation today? | | Let Me Decide: Campaign to Make GE Labels the Law in Florida
After just a few weeks on the ground in our Fort Lauterdale, Florida office, and hundreds of emails and phone calls from supporters like you, we received a commitment from a key state legislator to introduce a bill that would require labels for genetically engineered (GE) ingredients!
Big Ag uses genetic engineering as a tool in their bag of industrial farming tricks, which leads to overuse of chemicals, air and water pollution, and an overabundance of junk food.
If we can pass legislation in Florida that will give people the power to choose whether they want to consume genetically engineered foods, then we have a better chance of passing it in other states. Donate today to help us reach this goal! | Fracking Ban in Longmont, Colorado
In one of the biggest David versus Goliath stories across the nation, the citizens of Longmont, Colorado made history this past election by voting overwhelmingly to ban fracking, a dangerous method of gas drilling that threatens our water, health and communities.
The oil and gas industry spent nearly half-a-million dollars on TV commercials, mailers and newspaper ads to defeat this measure, and the Governor threatened to sue if the measure passed. Despite these challenges, we worked with hundreds of community members to knock on thousands of doors and make thousands of phone calls to protect our health, safety and property from fracking.
This victory paves the way for more communities to protect their essential resources and ban fracking. But, we need your support. Can you donate today so we can keep the pressure on for a wide spread ban on fracking? | Everyday I'm inspired by the work of my staff and the power they've helped demonstrate: your power. Each of these victories is a testament to the power of grassroots organizing. And now I ask you to help us continue to grow and demonstrate people-power by making a year-end donation today.
In order to remain independent of corporate and government influence, Food & Water Watch has a strict policy of not accepting corporate donations. We are funded fully through our members, individual donors, and foundation grants. Help from supporters like you is essential.
