Wolverines and Jaguars Need Your Help

Dear Center Supporter, The Center for Biological Diversity is all about protecting endangered species and the places they need to survive, including a safe, stable planetary climate. We've been called the "lean, green endangered species machine" because we don't mess around. And we urgently need your help by Dec. 31. Already in 2012 we've won Endangered Species Act protection for 31 imperiled species and the designation of more than 31 million acres of wildlife reserves, including 27 million for leatherback sea turtles, 30,000 for woodland caribou and 25,000 for western snowy plovers. But those who stand against us -- anti-wildlife zealots, right-wingers in Congress, the NRA and profit-hungry corporations -- are spoiling for a fight. They'd rather mine, log, pave and pollute our nation's most important wildlife habitat than give these incredible animals the help they need to survive. We need your help more than ever to win some of our most challenging and important battles to date, including Endangered Species Act protection for wolverines in the northern Rockies and an 840,000-acre reserve for jaguars in the Southwest. If you donate by Dec. 31, your gift will be matched by one of our board members, making it twice as valuable. • Wolverines have been decimated by logging, mining and roads pushed into their wilderness habitats. Now they're threatened by global warming melting away the snow dens their newborn kits need to survive. Without your help the entire species could disappear in our lifetime. • There is just one known jaguar left in the United States. And unbelievably, its habitat is being threatened by a massive open-pit mine in the rugged mountains just north of the Mexican border. We can bring a thriving jaguar population back to the United States, but not if we don't first protect the animal's essential habitat. After years of work and a historic 2011 settlement the Center struck with the federal government, the wolverine, jaguar and 100 other species are scheduled to receive protection decisions in 2013. But if those decisions are politicized or the mine is built first, neither species will survive for long. Please donate generously today to ensure the wolverine's snarl and the jaguar's roar continue to haunt America wildest mountains and canyons. 2013 will be a critical turning point for these two highly endangered species.
