Share Stephanie's story with your representative

Dear Supporter,

Our vision for a hunger-free America means nobody has to go to bed hungry. Yet we know that is happening far too often. How is that possible in the "Land of Plenty?"

Perhaps it’s because people don’t fully understand the scope of the problem we face. That’s why we asked you to help us choose the story that best illustrates hunger in America. Now, we need you to help us share that story with your representative.

By sharing the real stories behind hunger in America with our leaders in Washington, we hope to help Congress understand that anti-hunger programs are not just line items in a budget, but an expression of our nation's values.

Will you please share Stephanie’s story with your representative?

I only make $8/hr. I don't live an extravagant life. I live with my mother. We pay her rent and I make most of our meals at home and take them to work for my lunch as well. I don't own a car, I take the bus and walk with my son everywhere we need to go.

My son gets free lunch program thankfully at school. Without it in the summer and without school my expenses go up exponentially. We also get SNAP benefits as well. We need all extra help we can get. I am constantly having to tell my son no to any new things like clothes or even shoes. On occasion I can save up to get him those things, but only when he gets free lunches and SNAP benefits.
