From beer and art to dance and music May is a great time to visit the Gateway City. Bottoms Up Head to Forest Park on May 3rd and 4th for St. Louis Microfest 2013. The distinguishable smell of good ol’ hops will fill the air as this tasting festival offers party goers the chance to sample international and craft beers at three different session times over two days. The festival features live music, silent auction, food, tastes from over 90 breweries, a tasting glass and access to cooking demonstrations and brewing discussions in the Demo Tent. No need to BYOB ... they will have you covered! Fiesta, Fiesta! On May 4th, St. Louis’ seventh annual Cinco de Mayo festival will be held on Cherokee St. between Nebraska and Iowa streets. The event celebrates the rich Hispanic culture and strong, eclectic community within the Cherokee neighborhood and surrounding south St. Louis area. The festival showcases music on three separate stages, an assortment of authentic Mexican refreshments, plus live art demonstrations and street performers. A Walk in the Park Thousands of visitors will make their way to Laumeier Sculpture Park, May 10-13, for the annual Art Fair. Original works of art from more than 150 artists will be on display and for sale. Available for sale are works in ceramics, fiber/textiles, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography/digital, printmaking/drawing, sculpture and wood. The event also features wine tasting, hands-on activities for kids and live music from local favorites. Tickets to the Art Fair are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages six to 11. Members and children younger than six get in free. Lights, Camera, Action ... and Pointed Toes! See cutting-edge performances at one of the hottest dance festivals in the country when Spring to Dance returns to the Touhill Performing Arts Center, May 23-25. Now in its sixth year, Spring to Dance, presented by Dance St. Louis, brings together dancers from 30 professional dance companies located across the country. This is a fantastic opportunity to see all types of dance, varying in style and repertoire by nationally touring professional dance companies from the East and West Coasts and throughout the Midwest. Tune Up That Harp St. Louis is bad to the bone, May 24-26, as the free St. Louis Bluesweek Festival shakes, rattles and rolls into town for a ride on the Blues Highway. Visit Soldiers Memorial in downtown St. Louis, where sounds from deep in the Delta, all the way to St. Louis will wow the crowds.
