Up the Stack of M2M with Oracle


I had the privilege of speaking with Cheng Kian Khor, Architecture Director at Oracle. This is part one of the interview, and gives a good picture of how Oracle is enabling service providers to deliver M2M.  While I asked him about the recent purchase of Acme Packet and Tekelec, it is clear that Oracle has very active engagements with the communications providers already.  I started the conversation explaining that we had been working with many different parts of Oracle from Java Embedded to their services group on smart grid.  Here is his response and the rest of the interview:

CHENG KIAN KHOR:  I work in the Communications Industry Business Unit. We don’t own a particular product; we work across all the products. My specific group works with Communications and Media and in my case specifically, Communications. So typically, I work with the products and lines of business teams within Oracle, whether it’s the folks that work on the databases, the middleware, the java embedded, the applications, or the communication-specific products, because as you know we have billing platforms, service provisioning platforms and network inventory platforms. I also work with other products in Oracle such as our CRM, ERP and Asset Tracking products and so on.

CARL FORD:  From my days in the phone company and Bellcore, I was very much aware of how our legacy systems hampered our innovation. Was that unique to the U.S., or is legacy a problem in the rest of the world as well? Read More >>>
