Over the next few days, a lot will be written about Facebook Home, the social networking colossus's latest push to dominate all of the time we spend online, increasingly on our mobile devices. In fact, for a fast education on what was announced, read my colleague Amanda Ciccatelli's fine account of the Facebook Home introduction.
The Nintendo Wii U and revised Sony PSP have done poorly in the market and only the Xbox seems to be holding on in the face of declining console game sales. PC games have also fallen off sharply, though if you see hit titles like BioShock Infinite, they play vastly better on a PC than on the aging console alternatives. The next Xbox and PlayStation 4 are due out this year but they come at a time when people are increasingly playing games on their tablets and smartphones, though most of these don't have the performance needed for a truly great gaming experience.

Mobile Commerce Zone Conference & Expo is focused on how the mobile device will change and enhance the commerce experience for consumers and merchants. Mobile Commerce Zone (MCZ) is for individuals and companies looking to create new models of mobile transactions to create consumer loyalty, impact their sales cycle and drive revenue. MCZ is focused on the ability to use the mobile device as a point of sale instrument and the tremendous opportunities this represents. MCZ will delve into the ways that mobile has virtualized impulse buying, transactions, customer identification, loyalty offer programs, banking solutions beyond branch and teller services and other hot mobile topics.

The top broadcast TV networks are fighting hard to make upstart Aereo, Inc. a fleeting memory, claiming the company's plan to stream its programming over-the-air without compensation might make its business model history.
In what may be seen as a veiled threat to eager viewers but a PR bonanza for FOX TV's American Idol, an Illinois grandmother received a termination notice from Comcast for daring to vote several hundred times an hour by phone for her favorite singing contestant.
For those of you who saw my article on April Fool's Day that Google was going to buy Vodafone's 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless, I'd like to thank all of you for the kind words about having given you a good chuckle. Interestingly, it turns out that reality can be stranger than satire or fiction, as Verizon was forced to issue a statement quashing rumors that had sent stock markets into a tizzy that it had no plans to join arch rival AT&T in a bid to purchase Vodafone.
There was mixed reaction this week to the recent announcement by the Securities and Exchange Commission that it will allow companies to use social media for the release of key information that would be of interest to investors. Under its explanation, the SEC will let companies use Facebook, Twitter or other sites to announce material information.
Las Vegas is quietly becoming a high tech hub, with strengths in high touch customer service, data centers, and space technology. Walk past the neon glitz of the casino-laden Strip and you'll find a number of gems you'll want to remember if you're coming to ITEXPO West in August.
We had a large gathering over the Easter weekend - large enough in fact that we were able to compare a good number of smartphones, including a Galaxy III, a Galaxy Note 2, one of the edgeless screen Motorola Droids, and the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. Both of the Samsung users expressed buyer's remorse related specifically to size - they loved their Android, but ultimately wished they hadn't jumped on the larger sizes. The Motorola Droid user was extremely happy with her smartphone - the right size, weight and feel she exclaimed.
Back in November 2012 Microsoft decided to launch what it refers to as its Scroogled campaign. The original campaign used the line Have you been Scroogled to target users of Google's search engine to inform them that perhaps the links being returned from a Google search, as well as the ads being offered to the searcher, where a tad dishonest in that only ads from paid advertisers were being presented to the user rather than the entire possible set of ads that might be relevant. We covered the various issues back then on the ad serving front. Scroogling has since evolved.
