This Powerful New Fuel Could Do for Nuclear What Fracking Did for Natural Gas

For the first time in almost half a century, a new type of fuel is about to make nuclear power cheaper, more efficient and - most importantly - safer. One pound is the energy equivalent of 3.5 million pounds of coal. And a piece the size of a bowling ball can produce the same amount of power as 440 MMcf of liquid natural gas.

Now, thanks to this breakthrough, countries that have never used nuclear - such as Chile, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia - are working to bring reactors online. It's creating a massive profit opportunity for one undervalued mining company. Click here to get all the details.

Alexander GreenHow to Invest When You're Broke
By Alexander Green, Chief Investment Strategist

Alex answers a question from the reader Mailbag... I'm a middle-aged businessman. Not long ago, I ventured into the fuel delivery business and got badly taken, losing over $500,000. As a result, I don't have the cash to put to work in your investment ideas. What can I do to rebuild my fortune and reclaim my life?

Alex's answer:

This is a tough situation for anyone to find himself in. After all, it's not terribly difficult to get rich when you're young and still have most of your life ahead of you. I've written about these principles before.

But what do you do if - like the letter writer - it's late in life and you need to do something drastic to jump-start your portfolio and begin investing again?

David Fessler Electric Utilities: Extinct Within a Decade?
By David Fessler, Energy and Infrastructure Strategist

I used to be an electrical engineer. I spent more than 20 years designing and testing semiconductor chips for AT&T (NYSE:T). The chips I worked on ended up in telephone system central offices.

Today, technology is putting landline telephones on the road to extinction. Ten years ago, nearly every house in the U.S. had a landline phone. Today, 51.7% of Americans either don't have or don't use their landline. That number is increasing by nearly 2% per year.

I could name a dozen other industries that have become obsolete because of technology. However, there's a sense of impending doom creeping up on one industry most Americans currently depend on.

Marc Lichtenfeld Four Steps to Take When Stocks Are Ready to Crash
By Marc Lichtenfeld, Chief Income Strategist

It is Wall Street legend that in 1979, BusinessWeek informed readers of "The Death of Equities" right before the biggest run-up in stock prices in history.

Since then, many other magazine covers have served as a contrarian signal for where the markets are headed. That's led to a theory among some investors that the market is about to do the opposite of whatever mainstream magazine covers suggest.

This week, for example, bears are celebrating and bulls are cowering after Time magazine explains "How Wall Street Won" five years after the financial crisis, complete with a bull in a party hat.

For the sake of argument, let's pretend that Time's cover did send a legitimate bear signal to the world. Or maybe tapering will sink stocks. Or Mercury in retrograde will depress earnings... What would be the proper course of action for investors in a bear market?

Sean Brodrick Gold Lust: A Report From the Road
By Sean Brodrick, Resource Strategist

I'm traveling around Nevada this week, scouting gold miners. Nevada is one of the best places on Earth to be mining right now. And as a geologist reminded me yesterday, all the biggest mines in the world started out small, just like the up-and-comers I'm visiting.

Some of them could be among tomorrow's giants.

In fact, as I write this, I'm about to go into an underground mine that's so high grade, I'm told there are big visible flakes of gold in the ore.

Alexander GreenWhy the Mega-Rich Get Richer... and You Can, Too
By Alexander Green, Chief Investment Strategist

With unemployment high and the economy still sputtering, economic insecurity in the U.S. is rampant right now. The 2013 Retirement Confidence Survey (RCS), the longest-running survey of its kind, reveals that the percentage of workers who feel confident they have enough for a comfortable retirement is near record lows.

At the other end of the scale, this week Forbes released its annual list of the top 400 richest Americans. And the mood here is decidedly upbeat. Many are several billion dollars richer.

Most of the names near the top are the same as in years past - and so are the principles that got them there. So there is much that we can learn here if we're willing to listen.
