Are the Rich Smarter? By Alexander Green, Chief Investment Strategist
Growing up, when I got into an argument with my mother, she would sometimes resort to the nuclear option, her tried-and-true conversation stopper.
Putting her hands on her hips and using the worst faux Southern accent imaginable, she'd say, "Well, if you're so damn smart, why aren't you rich?"
I never knew how to respond to this. Of course, I was 12 at the time and the deadbeats on my paper route kept margins low. Still, it ingrained in me the notion that the rich must have a little something extra going on upstairs, otherwise we'd all be rolling in it. Right?

Revealing Washington's Latest Secret By David Fessler, Energy and Infrastructure Strategist
It didn't make big headlines last week, but the nation's key economic figures were quietly revised higher.
Instead of moving forward at a snail-like 1.7%, the bean counters in D.C. now say the nation's economy expanded by 2.5% in the second quarter.
But here's the secret few folks are talking about... a record-low petroleum trade deficit played a huge role in the revisions. And of course, our elected leaders are eager to take credit. But are they really the ones responsible?

Nothing Can Stop Us By Marc Lichtenfeld, Chief Income Strategist
At some point today, we'll all likely pause for a moment to remember the horrific events that occurred 12 years ago, the innocent lives lost and the bravery of the first responders who selflessly rushed into the carnage.
Like every American, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the planes hit.
I lived in San Francisco and worked East Coast market hours. Just as I walked in the door of the office, I looked up at the TV screen and saw video of the first plane hitting the tower.
Despite the awful events, we were told to carry on with our normal routines until further notice. I was on the phone with an analyst in Chicago when he said, "Oh my God, the tower just fell."
I knew at that moment that our routine would not be normal for some time.

How Commodities Made America Possible By Sean Brodrick, Resource Strategist
I went to Boston this week to speak at The Oxford Club's Private Wealth Seminar. Boston is one of my favorite towns. I love its historical links to liberty, American independence and... commodities.
How do commodities figure into American history?
People forget that the Boston Tea Party was really a protest over price-fixing of a vital commodity.

The Newest Surefire Investment System By Alexander Green, Chief Investment Strategist
At The Oxford Club's Private Wealth Seminar in Boston this week, an attendee at the cocktail reception took a minute to thank for me the presentation I gave that morning.
"But will you also hear a bit of constructive criticism?" he asked.
I encouraged him to fire away.
"As a regular reader of yours," he said, almost apologetically, "I've heard some of this before. In fact, I'm not sure I heard anything about your investment approach today that was brand new."
I nodded. His remark reminded me of something I experienced a few years ago when CNBC did a two-hour special on Warren Buffett's investment technique. It was called "The Billionaire Next Door." (You can still watch it on the Internet.)
