BRADENTON, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2013) — The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys NCAA Interregional is now underway at Braden River Soccer Club in Bradenton, Fla. The three-day event kicked off Friday and features boys from the 1996 and 1997 age groups.

During Friday's games, nearly 100 college coaches, as well as members of the U.S. National Team staff, were in attendance and watched the games for both age groups.

Continuing its tradition of elite competition and player development, youth from the nation's top player identification program, US Youth Soccer ODP, will train and compete in front of national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play. The 2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Boys NCAA Interregional includes players in the 2014-2016 graduation classes.

US Youth Soccer ODP is the nation's original player identification program. With programs in all 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, it is available to any player, regardless of hometown or club affiliation. US Youth Soccer ODP has continued its tradition of elite competition and player development for more than 30 years, and is the only development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and a majority of current and past national and youth national team members as alumni. Highlights from today's matches:

1997 Boys: Region I v. Region II

In a tight, low-scoring contest, Region II managed to come away with a 1-0 win over Region I in 1997 Boys play. Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the first 80 minutes, as the two teams approached the end of regulation in a scoreless tie. But in the 81st minute, Skye Harter converted his chance for Region II to give his side a late go-ahead goal. The Region II defense completed the shutout, as Harter’s goal proved to be game-winner in the 1-0 victory.

1997 Boys: Region III v. Region IV

Region IV struck for a late goal to defeat Region III, 2-1, in a competitive 1997 Boys matchup on Friday. The game went to halftime scoreless, as both defenses managed to keep the opposition in check in the first 45 minutes. Region IV took the lead shortly after halftime when Leonardo Fuchs converted a penalty kick, but Jose Cerra responded for Region III in the 75th minute with a goal to level the score. However, Alejandro Mendoza netted a game-winning goal in the 86th minute to help seal the 2-1 victory for Region IV.

1996 Boys: Region I v. Region II

Region I used a pair of late goals to defeat Region II, 2-0, in its first 1996 Boys matchup of the weekend. It was a defensive struggle for much of the match before William Eskay found the back of the net in the 80th minute to put Region I up, 1-0. Region II pushed for an equalizer, but it was Region I’s Paul Delamy who found the back of the net five minutes later, giving his side an insurance goal. The Region I defense held on in the final minutes to secure a shutout.

1996 Boys: Region III v. Region IV

After a scoreless first half, Region IV netted a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes to earn a 2-0 win over Region III in 1996 Boys action. The Region IV squad took the lead in the 56th minute on a Guy Horcasitas strike and doubled its advantage soon after when Alec Marshall found the back of the net. The Region IV defense did the rest, as it kept a clean sheet in the shutout win.
