The NSA wiretapping and digital espionage story has longer legs than a super model. For months now, The Guardian has been breaking news from Edward Snowden's cache of documents. The latest revelations allege the NSA infiltrates mobile apps and online games. Pipeline has maintained that this creates an opportunity for service providers to create and market security and encryption products. The trend is beginning; this week, Deutsche Telekom beefed up its mobile encryption to prevent unwarranted snooping. As 2013 nears its end, several large acquisition stories crossed the wire. Perhaps the biggest story of late is Verizon's purchase of EdgeCast Networks, which will give Big Red significant advantages in video content delivery. In related scoops, JDSU made moves to acquire Network Instruments and C-Spire Wireless bought cloud communications provider Callis. Amdocs received an early present this holiday season when Vodafone recognized the 'Docs with an award for outstanding value and extraordinary contribution. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the latest issue of Pipeline, which reviews the top trends in telecom and takes a peek into the stories that will shape 2014.
