 | | Greg Guenthner | When you cut through all the nonsense, the only true purpose of the stock market is to confuse the hell out of you and take all your money in the process...
And right now, the season is ripe for losing money.
The S&P 500 squeaked out a tiny gain yesterday. The broad market index has finished in the red four out of the last six trading days. But it hasn't exactly been a smooth ride for stocks.
In reality, stocks have taken the long road to nowhere. After the push lower to begin the year, the broad market has stuttered and stalled every single time it has tried to recover. Traders and investors have sold into nearly every single morning rally:
So you're stuck in the churn--a dangerous place for fidgety traders looking to put some money to work. You must remain patient when the market is behaving this way. I've seen plenty of false breakouts over the past two trading sessions. There's no reason to chase after any dubious day trades just to try and squeeze a buck out of a speculative stock's temporary run-up... Your best bet in this "nowhere market" is to search for pockets of relative strength (In fact, I have a new relative strength play for you today in the PRO section). While we haven't enjoyed any broad market moves higher--we also have yet to see a big downside push that tears down nearly every stock on the market.
As long as this market of stocks environment persists, we can continue to find sectors and industries that are outperforming the big index... | | | | | | | | | LEAKED: Pentagon Will Flood Market With $16.1 Billion in New Spending... The Pentagon is set to unleash "The Black Budget." And it could send this one small group of stocks through the roof. When to Sell | | | Our own Jonas Elmerraji is thinking digitally this week as he winds down his visit to the Consumer Electronics Show...
"We have become ravenous consumers of digital information," Jonas says. "For the five-year span between 2012-17, mobile data traffic is estimated to increase 13 times, to more than 11.2 exabytes per month. That's enough bandwidth to transfer a copy of all the content in every academic research library in the United States...2,000 times."
"That's why wireless carriers are seeing such a surge in the data volumes that pass through their networks," he explains. "While technological advances have lowered costs for most of the technological services we consume, wireless data costs have actually gone up, not down."
But the days of data roaming charges could soon be over...
"Imagine going from your hotel to the airport to the airplane to the train station," says Jonas, "without losing your Internet connection, without connecting to sketchy or unknown wireless networks and without having to pull out a credit card."
Here's the scoop on how Jonas can help you play the trend... [Ed.
