| | | This Stock is Like a Superhero
I am not ashamed to admit that I am a fan of the superhero genre. I have seen The Avengers movies, the Marvel Comics films, etc. The deeper that one delves into the genre it is easy to see that some of the names of the characters can become quite ridiculous. An early episode of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory even did a mini-spoof on the names, which are flooded with silly alliteration. So, it should be no surprise to anyone that when I came across a company with the name Metalico, Inc. (NYSE - MEA - $2.36), I was compelled to see if there was some "there, there." Upon further review, this stock could prove to a superhero in its industry segment, and investors banking on an economic recovery would be wise to get on board.
Metalico, Inc. is a holding company with operations in two principal business segments: ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal recycling, including PGM and minor metals recycling, and fabrication of lead-based products which are sold to domestic manufacturers. The company operates recycling facilities in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New Jersey, Texas and Mississippi and lead-fabricating plants in Alabama, Illinois and California.

How to Bet on an Improved 2014
Judging by yesterday's performance, the stock market didn't exactly start out with a bang for 2014. This is not really a surprise, nor should it be a cause for concern. With the calendar placing the second day of the year on a Thursday, it is likely that a number of major players are still on vacation, both physically and philosophically. In addition, media panic over a big storm that reached the Northeast and blasé economic numbers such as jobless claims all point to the "real" start of the year to occur on Monday.
After all, with the economic consensus that the U.S. will enjoy solid growth this year, stocks are surely primed to move higher. This growth aspect could have a pronounced effect on certain leisure stocks. We have found what may be a great one to bet on.
Longtime readers of The Stock Junction may recall that we profiled PokerTek, Inc. (NASDAQ - PTEK - $0.91) two years ago. While the stock has not exactly set the world on fire, its new business around the globe should drive the shares meaningfully higher this year. PokerTek is a licensed gaming company headquartered in Matthews, North Carolina, that develops and distributes electronic table games solutions for the gaming industry. The company's products are installed worldwide, and include PokerPro and Blackjack Pro. As of Sept. 30, 2012, it had 2,442 gaming positions deployed worldwide.
