It's Time PepsiCo Goes Deforestation-Free

Demand that PepsiCo adopt a deforestation-free palm oil policy now to ensure that the company is not driving tropical deforestation and climate change.

ACTION ALERT
Demand that PepsiCo Go Deforestation-Free

Dear UCS supporter,

Have you seen the Years of Living Dangerously documentary series on Showtime? The first two episodes featured Harrison Ford in Indonesia, where he explored how irresponsible palm oil production continues to drive massive deforestation while also wreaking havoc with our climate. As tropical forests are cleared to make way for palm plantations, carbon is released into the atmosphere, driving global warming and shrinking habitat for endangered species. Tropical deforestation currently accounts for about 10 percent of the world's heat-trapping emissions.

Thousands of food products on the shelves of grocery stores contain palm oil. Consider PepsiCo, the parent company of many of our favorite brands—like Quaker—and a major buyer of palm oil for products like granola bars, cookies, and crackers.

PepsiCo continues to lag behind industry peers who have already promised to ensure that they won't buy from palm oil suppliers linked to tropical deforestation or new plantation development on carbon-rich peat soils. This is unacceptable. PepsiCo can, and should, do more to protect tropical forests, our climate, and endangered species.

Together, we have already convinced three companies—Colgate-Palmolive, General Mills, and Procter & Gamble—to go deforestation-free. We can do the same with PepsiCo.

Take action today and tell PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi that it's time to go deforestation-free.

Take Action

Sincerely,
Sharon Smith signature
