T-Mobile issued the update May 22 to fix a problem with the messaging on the Galaxy S5, but then halted the update without giving a reason. "It appears that many users are having major download issues after updating to yesterday's ANE5 update. Once the update is applied, download speeds are reduced to 1MB. T-Mobile may even have pulled the update," Michael Aybinder with the XDA Developers Forum was quoted by Android Police as observing. The Bitbag explains that the update was "huge," 131 MB, and was rolled out using the over-the-air process and Samsung Kies PC Suite. "Normally, any issues delivered by a firmware update are fixable using the upcoming new software containing the patch or using a firmware rollback. However, Galaxy S5 is one of the known smartphones difficult to set for a rollback and resetting the device to solve a problem such as the case on T-Mobile is not possible," the Bitbag article notes. "You may visit the nearest T-Mobile service centre to have the device reformatted and reinstalled with the previous firmware in order to resolve the issue. Unless, you are capable of accessing the boot loader and using ODIN flash tool, you can download and reinstall the initial or factory firmware of T-Mobile Galaxy S5 which can be found on various sources online," the article adds. Register Today! | Everyone knows that mobile devices can fall victim to plenty of monkey business, but there are generic "monkey testing" tips that you can use to be sure your mobile apps are in good order. An article at Business 2 Community notes that "there are no hard and fast rules to define use cases for monkey testing. A lot of these test cases would overlap with performance testing or load testing or any other testing for that matter." While the type of app and device affects the kind of testing, there are certain generic testing scenarios that users might want to try with their apps, the article notes. They include: - Check the app response, when changing the device orientation continuously in different angles
- Check whether the app is detained, when dragging the screen to the top or bottom end continuously
- Check the app response, when tapping on the list item while scrolling the list
- Check whether the app screen is loading continuously without any data and network failure message, when there is network problem after the data call
- Check whether the app crashes, when scrolling the list up and down rigorously
The article offers more tips for monkeying around with your mobile apps. A study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research finds that a tablet app designed for elderly Spanish patients helped those patients--who had no experience with information and communication technologies--remember to take their medications, according to an article from eWeek. "The study, which involved 99 elderly Spanish patients (48 in the control group and 51 in the experimental group), indicated the app, called ALICE, resulted in fewer missed doses of medication and helped to significantly reduce medication errors in patients with an initially higher rate of errors," the article states. ALICE uses the cameras on iOS and Android tablets to enable patients to take pictures of their assorted prescriptions. Once the dosage and instructions for the medicine are recorded, the app displays a picture and sends multiple alerts at the time the patient is due to take each drug. Eighty-eight percent of the experimental group thought ALICE improved their medical independence. The report discusses additional avenues for study, including virtual pillboxes, and expects the findings to have broader implications for regimental treatments. However, one hitch in the adoption process could be troubleshooting programs once a routine has been implemented. As the article notes, "more than half of the patients from the experimental group (59 percent) required individual support once they joined the study to solve problems related to the use of ALICE."
