Canada lynx

A female lynx is examined by Fish and Game biologists after being caught and released from a trap in Idaho’s Panhandle in January 2014.
Dear Center Supporter,

Idaho is trapping its wildlife to death -- not only wolves but lynx, bobcats and any wild creature whose fur earns top dollar at auction. The Center for Biological Diversity and allies are going to stop it, and we need your help.

Give today to our Predator Defense Fund and give us the power to fight Idaho's brutal trapping in court.

Right now lynx are caught in the crosshairs of Idaho's war on wolves and the state's wild fur industry -- which has a direct link to the Canada fur market and Asian and European consumers. From $500 rewards for every wolf trapped to $2,000 bids for wild fur pelts, wolf-haters and fur-sellers have powerful incentives to lace Idaho's wilderness with deadly metal traps.

Lynx and wolves struggling to survive can't take much more.

Lynx numbers in Idaho are precariously low. There are only 100 left, and losing just a few of these majestic snow cats will have disastrous consequences.

Our lawsuit to protect lynx from further trapping deaths is all that stands in the way of trappers, anti-wolf interests bent on exterminating wolves, and the vicious metal traps that kill slowly and painfully
.

To wipe out as many wolves as possible, Idaho has dramatically ramped up the number of leghold
, snare and body-crushing traps strewn across its landscape. And the number of trapping licenses has skyrocketed from 1,114, to almost 2,000.

Idaho trapping licenses
It's illegal to trap or kill lynx, because they're a federally protected species. Yet Idaho is ramping up licenses to kill more wolves, bobcats, coyotes and other species knowing that lynx will get caught as well -- though it's illegal. And a hunting group is driving more wolf deaths with a $500 trapping reward.

This level of trapping may wipe out all the state's lynx. We have to stop it now.

This is my final request: Please help stop the killing of wolves and lynx by donating to the Predator Defense Fund or, if you've given all you can, passing this email along to your friends.

The Center has formally notified Gov. Otter we'll sue if the state doesn't stop killing lynx -- and we will. But we need your help.

For the wild,

P.S. Idaho's keeping it quiet, but endangered lynx are dying. The Max and Anna Levinson Foundation is helping by offering a $50,000 match. Please join them by donating to our Predator Defense Fund to fight for lynx and wolves struggling to survive this wholesale slaughter.
