Dear Center Supporter, An Idaho hunting group is now paying trappers $500 for every wolf killed in the state's panhandle. It's a "reimbursement" for traps, lure, snares, rifles, ammunition, and more -- because they want to make wolf-killing as easy as possible. There's no mercy anymore for wolves and other predators struggling to survive in Idaho. As I've written you before, Idaho's senseless, cruel war on wolves is also hurting Canada lynx, an endangered species. There are only 100 of these beautiful wild cats left in Idaho, and they're becoming victims of Idaho's powerful culture of wolf-haters. We have to stop Idaho from trapping its wolves and lynx to the brink of extinction. The Center for Biological Diversity is going to court to fight the illegal killing. Please help us win the case by donating today to our emergency Predator Defense Fund. Right now donations will be matched by a generous grant from the Max and Anna Levinson Foundation, committed supporters of our endangered species program. To kill as many wolves as possible, Idaho isn't just spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on sharpshooters and helicopters; the state has also dramatically ramped up the number of leghold, snare and body-crushing traps strewn across its landscape. The number of trapping licenses has skyrocketed from 1,114, before wolves were stripped of federal protection, to 1,943 in 2013. It's illegal to trap or kill lynx, because they're a federally protected species. Yet Idaho is ramping up trapping licenses to kill more wolves, bobcats, coyotes and other species knowing that lynx will get caught as well -- in violation of the Endangered Species Act. Now this private hunting group is funding the wolf slaughter with a $500 trapping reward -- and that means more wildlife will suffer, especially lynx. This level of trapping is deeply destructive. It may wipe out all the state's lynx. And it will only get worse if we don't stop it now. Please help stop the killing of wolves and lynx by donating to the Predator Defense Fund. The Center has formally notified Gov. Otter we'll sue if the state doesn't stop killing lynx -- and that's exactly what we'll do. But we need your help to win this fight. For the wild, | | Kierán Suckling Executive Director Center for Biological Diversity | | PS: The Max and Anna Levinson Foundation will match donations to the Predator Defense Fund if the Center is able to raise $50,000 from our members. We're about halfway there, so please give now to save wolves and lynx. P.P.S.
