Stop Bluefin Tuna From Going Extinct

Dear Center Supporter, Pacific bluefin tuna are formidable ocean giants. At maturity they're nearly 10 feet long and can weigh more than 1,000 pounds. But for all their fast swimming and deep-sea diving, bluefin haven't been able to escape our insatiable appetite for sushi -- and we have yet to give them a break. A study last year showed a shocking 96 percent decline in their historic numbers -- but overfishing of this imperiled species continues, and sushi restaurants keep putting bluefin on people's plates.  The situation has gotten so bad that scientists now warn of a complete collapse looming for the Pacific bluefin's populations. Act now and demand that the Pacific Fishery Management Council shut down its bluefin tuna fisheries so these magnificent fish can recover before it's too late.
