America Is Splitting In Two By Nick Hodge | Thursday, June 12th, 2014 My buddy Frank’s had a tough time lately. Despite always doing what he was "supposed" to do, he works all day and is still barely getting by. He’s on the verge of so-called retirement age, but there appears to be no end in sight. His wife had to take a job at the checkout counter of the local grocery store. In Frank’s America, there are no leisurely pursuits anymore. There’s barely time to be a family. He and his wife never thought their lives would be like this. Frank says he feels pretty down all the time. He feels like he’s missing out on his own life. He won’t qualify for Social Security for a few more years. At this point, he really doesn’t know what to do to fix things. Frank and his wife are hanging in there, but they never imagined this would be their life headed into their retirement years. Frank didn’t do anything to deserve this. He did everything he was "supposed" to do his whole life. And it’s gotten him nowhere. There are times he wonders what it’s all about. What’s the point of doing all this work to still be poor? And when does he get to enjoy his life? What did Frank do wrong to feel like that? I’m worried about Frank and people just like him.
