Today, more tigers live in captivity than in the wild. And though the tiger is the national animal for India, fewer than 2,000 remain free within its borders. But with your support, we can protect our remaining tigers and other big cats and stop the poachers. Your contribution will support vital big cat protection programs like the one underway in the Western Ghats region of India. Poachers thrive on the fringes of this region's wildlife reserves, targeting tigers and leopards. But a two-prong approach stops the poachers cold and gives local law enforcement the reliable evidence they need to fully prosecute these big cat killers. - First, our partners in the field implement real-life monitoring of animals and poachers along major trade routes. When a poacher is spotted, a mobile phone alert goes to everyone involved in protecting the tigers, leopards, and other vulnerable wildlife in the region. So they can immediately act.
- Then, the incident is added to a poachers-traders database. The result is that now the poachers can no longer hide their illegal activities. Conservationists, law enforcement, and local tiger lovers throughout the region learn the poachers' patterns of hunting, transporting, and trading the body parts of their kills, so they can stop them for good.
Law enforcement can then apprehend these killers and fully prosecute them for their crimes. Help us stop the illegal poaching of tigers and other big cats in the wild.
