| | | | | | | | | | As cybersecurity threats around the globe increase in sophistication and frequency, the need for enhanced solutions grows. As we've predicted in Pipeline, service providers are ramping up their security offerings to meet this challenge. Just this week, Verizon and VMware teamed up on mobile security, Etisalat and Telefonica partnered on managed security, BT announced an upgrade to its security monitoring platform that puts more data in the hands of its customers, and Telstra laid the groundwork for a security monitoring platform. The Internet of Things (IoT) and its cousin, machine to machine (M2M) connectivity, are the cornerstones of the connected future. We've seen Sony's patent for the connected wig, and reviewed the connected cow solution from Device Cloud Networks, so it's safe to say everything will be connected at some point. The trend continues; AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent recently collaborated on a connected school bus, and smart city technology from Deutsche Telekom is helping Pisa, Italy lean into the future. I'm still waiting for connected silverware that monitors food intake so I can lose my "winter coat." Big NFV news: Oracle has announced an NFV application orchestrator, which is essentially the controller of a multi-vendor NFV environment. Many vendors are vying for leadership in this segment of the NFV market, and this will continue to be a hot area as NFV deployments begin to take hold. Best, Jesse CrydermanSenior Editor |
