Looking back on 3D Basecamp 2014
Last month, SketchUp enthusiasts, professionals, developers… heck, friends from across the globe gathered in snowy Vail, Colorado for 3D Basecamp 2014. What can we say? It was a blast.
3D Basecamp: Fun for (mostly) everyone
If you were one of the five million (or so) SketchUpdate subscribers who couldn't make it to Basecamp '14, we've got good news: You can watch Basecamp's best presentations now on our YouTube channel. There’s a lot to learn in this series, so brace yourself for some serious SketchUp knowledge. And if you think you’d like to come to the next 3D Basecamp, add your name to our Basecamp Notification list, and we'll gladly keep you in the loop.
Introducing SketchUp Mobile Viewer for iPad
You read that right: The SketchUp Mobile Viewer for iPad is our first-ever mobile app that lets you navigate and present models on Apple tablets. You can also search 3D Warehouse and download models for offline viewing. Check out the SketchUp Mobile Viewer at the iTunes store now...
Our first-ever Ruby Debugger
Shortly after Extension Warehouse crossed the 1-million download mark, we released a debugging tool for SketchUp developers. If you’re not Ruby scripting for SketchUp, this debugging aid may not be for you. But the folks who write the fantastic extensions you use everyday will probably want to learn more about our handy Ruby Debugger...
Scanning and SketchUp
Increasingly, we’ve heard from construction professionals who would like to use their impressive (and massive) point cloud data in SketchUp. Along with our pals in Trimble’s RealWorks division, we spotted an opportunity to leverage scan data in SketchUp without overloading or overcomplicating your models. Learn more about the Trimble Scan Explorer Extension for SketchUp...
Instant Roof Nui
Longtime SketchUpdate readers will remember our in-depth look at Vali Architect’s Instant Roof plugin a few years back. Good-to-great news: Vali has updated this tool for SketchUp 2014 while adding some new functionality. Check out the latest, greatest Instant Roof Nui...
Soap Skin Bubble
An oldie-but-goodie, Soap Skin Bubble creates lofted shapes from simple curves. It’s also one of the most fun SketchUp extensions to watch in action, as you can also inflate or depressurize shapes until you start giggling. Find and install Soap Skin Bubble while using using Extension Warehouse in SketchUp...
Animate Sections
If you’ve ever manipulated a sectional view by combining SketchUp’s Move and Section Plane tools, you know that it’s a pretty slick way to reveal model elements during a presentation. A new SketchUp add-on auto-generates these 3D reveals. See how the Animate Sections extension works...
Mason Farm Renders
When Matt Donley, of MasterSketchup.com, discovered a set of century-old blueprints that his great grandfather used to design and build his childhood home, it was clear the universe was telling him to use SketchUp and LayOut to recreate the family farmhouse in 3D. See how the Mason Farm came to life in SketchUp...
Orbit a Vermeer
Super modeler Jan Hendrik has built up one of the more impressive and diverse portfolios on 3D Warehouse. Recently, we stumbled on to his enchanting recreation of Johannes Vermeer’s 1658 work, “The Milkmaid.” The model is an impressive feat of modeling and texturing. See for yourself: orbit Hendrik's Vermeer now...
Create a complex crest rail
Ever have one of those fist-pumping moments where you figure out how to model a complex shape using the simplest of SketchUp’s modeling tools? If so, you’ll want to put aside ten minutes and read Jeff Branch’s step-by-step tutorial on modeling a complex crest trail...
NanaWall’s dynamic doors
Sliding door components that automatically scale and quickly configure to specification? Yes, please. NanaWall's free collection on 3D Warehouse is a pretty good one to bookmark. And while you're at it, you might as well take a few minutes (courtesy of our friends at SketchUpSchool.com) and learn how to use them...
