"These Nanny State Idiots" By Jocelynn Smith, Managing Editor Dear Sovereign Investor, On Saturday, June 14, I shared a story about a Florida homeowner who was cited by the city of Bradenton for minor infractions such as peeling paint and missing window screens. His response to the city's need to infringe on what he regarded as his rights as a homeowner was to paint his house like the American flag. Was the city government tossing aside his rights? Or was it the city's responsibility to protect the property value of his neighbors? I proposed the dilemma to Sovereign Investor Daily readers, looking for your thoughts on the issue. The response was overwhelming! So many people have had their lives touched by out-of-control city governments or even HOA groups drunk on their own power. While I believe that city governments have no right to impose their will upon homeowners, there are often instances where they should have. The latter pertains to instances where lack of upkeep has blighted a neighborhood, a safety issue has been created, security of the property has been compromised, regulations and standards for certain areas have been agreed upon by the residents of the area and are applicable to future buyers in that area. A tough question if you do some thinking. At one end is a free-for-all where government stands back and let's everyone do whatever they want. This form of government would be unacceptable to most people, since only the powerful would survive. At the other end is a very restrictive government that claims to protect its citizens but instead endangers them. We are very much on our way toward the second extreme. What is the answer? As a society we have to get back to telling the truth and stop all the legalized stealing that is commonplace. FROM: B. Fee
I believe and always have believed, that our government, be it federal or local, has NO right in telling us or dictating to us what we should do, wear, eat, drink, drive and so on. The only way any government can dictate or mandate a country, meaning (us, we the people) is if we the people allow them to get away with it. To many times, people allow their state or local government, including federal as well, get away with allowing letting other people to complain, that they are insulted, feel uncomfortable, or anything that is American, and then we the people, have to go along with it. I am sick of others demanding, as if we owe them something. We are the ones who give governments the right, the power, to take liberties against us. If we would stand up to them, and say that we are sick and tired of it, and vote these people out of office, maybe things would change. But, until that happens, our governments will do, and continue to do this to us, if we let them! This needs to stop!!! They DON'T have the right period!! FROM: Sinewave

The involvement of government is overwhelming. We need government in most cases like we need a case of hemorrhoids. Government is driven by a society of crybabies that lack the balls to stand on their own two feet, thus looking to someone else to fight their battles. People need to grow up, be responsible for their own situations and stop the process of allowing elected officials the power to dictate to us in our everyday lives. Most elected officials are those that sucked the bottle until they were 7-8 years old and never had the backbone to stand on their own two feet. The government has no rights to tell people how to paint their homes or any other restriction that is not endangering other people's lives and property. Not including their value. There are many HOA's that they can move into and pay extra money to be told what to do with your property. The government should not be in that business FROM: M. Gomez
I believe that no government has the right to infringe on a citizen's right in his own home. Due to the unfolding events in the Middle East, it's my humble opinion that how we keep our property will be a minor concern from now on. Our number one thought should be how we literally survive and keep this Republic from fading away. These nanny state idiots need to keep their noses out of our business and homes.
