The number and variety of mobile devices in the enterprise have exploded over the last few years. While these devices helped workers become more productive, they can put a strain on IT departments as the flood of help desk calls and diversity of operating systems threaten to overwhelm them. Mobile device management has helped ease some of the workload as IT is able to fix devices remotely. In addition, some users are taking matters into their own hands and fixing the problems themselves. To effectively address the challenge BYOD poses for IT departments, enterprises need to develop a plan that includes a policy on what devices IT will support as well as new tools and training for IT personnel.
