To keep up with customer's needs and demands, Algar Telecom (Brazil), Angola Cables (Angola), Antel (Uruguay) and Google have teamed up to start building a new undersea fiber-optic cable stretched for 10,556 km (6,560 miles) long with six fiber pairs. This new fiber-optic outlay is expected to inter connect major cities such as Santos and Fortaleza in Brazil with Boca Raton, Florida in the United States.

Hosting international events come with both boons and banes. While on one hand, it contributes immensely to national prestige, on the other, it is a matter of enormous national expenditure.

Finger Lakes Technologies Group, Inc. (FLTG), an affiliate of the Ontario & Trumansburg Telephone Companies (OTTC) and a Cisco premier certified partner are family owned and operated, a rarity in today's consolidated multi-national telecom markets. In 2009, the Obama administration authorized $7.2 billion as part of the federal broadband stimulus program with the goal of increasing accessibility and affordability of high-speed Internet services to many underserved rural communities across the country. This initiative is responsible for making the technology available to communities that have limited Internet and in some cases never had it before. Silverton, Colorado is one of the communities that will be benefiting from the funding it received as part of the stimulus program.

The federal government has invested more than $7 billion to ensure broadband technology is readily available across every community in the United States regardless of size or location. While this initiative has introduced fast Internet service to many communities around the country, there are still challenges when it comes to deploying the infrastructure that is required to provide the services. Dothan City, Alabama is one of the communities in the process of installing its fiber optic cable infrastructure to tie in its fire department and city services, with the eventual goal of having everyone connected.

A combination of challenging terrain and vendors that failed to deliver left the town of Silverton, Colo. without broadband Internet service for years, but now that has changed. According to the Denver Post, an operation resulting from the combined efforts of a federal program and an Internet service provider (ISP) has finally installed fiber-optic cable to the remote area.
