Teanaway Pack Wolf

Dear Center Supporter,

The alpha female of Washington's Teanaway wolf pack has just been shot to death in Kittitas County. The Teanaway was recently lauded as a model pack by the state's wildlife experts, but not even "good" wolves are safe from those who believe the only good wolf is a dead wolf. "Shoot, shovel and shut up" is the saying amongst these outlaw wolf killers.

Working with our allies, we plan to post a reward of up to $13,500 to catch this armed criminal. This reward is made possible by your contributions.

This is the second illegal Washington wolf killing in the past three weeks. In Whitman County a man is being investigated after he was reported to have chased a wolf for several miles in his vehicle and then shot the exhausted animal. Wolves are supposed to be protected under the state's endangered species act, but Washington is failing to do its job.

That's why we're on the ground fighting for wolves -- to stop these illegal killings and state mismanagement. Our West Coast Wolf Organizer Amaroq Weiss is leading a campaign to end the slaughter by pushing the adoption of a legally binding wolf plan with watertight rules, reforming the process for how the state decides the fate of packs and getting the right pro-wolf people into decision-making positions.

You can help Amaroq's work with a donation to the Center, which will be matched 2-to-1.

We know this kind of pressure can succeed. When the state decided to gun down members of the Huckleberry pack in August, Amaroq helped coordinate a campaign that grounded Washington's helicopters and stopped its hired sniper. Tragically it came too late to save the pack's alpha female, but the rest of the pack survived.

No more wolves should die, either at the hand of outlaw killers or state snipers. Help us turn this tragedy into stronger protection for Washington's wolves.

Give today and your gift will be matched 2-to-1 by a generous supporter of our work for wildlife.
