Dear Center Supporter,

Yesterday couldn't have gone much worse for wildlife, like the lone wolf who recently journeyed to the Grand Canyon. How bad was it? One of the men elected was rabid wolf-hater Rob Bishop of Utah, who is now slated to replace Doc Hastings as the chief congressional enemy of endangered species. Bishop is devoutly committed to silencing the calls of the wild and pirating public lands for private profit, and yesterday brought him one step closer to his goal of gutting the Endangered Species Act.

We're going toe-to-toe against Tea Party radicals like Bishop, and we need your help. Give now and your gift will be matched 2-to-1 by a generous wildlife champion who's committed to protecting vulnerable animals from anti-wildlife politicians.

Bishop is slated to become the new chair of the powerful House Natural Resources Committee. He despises wolves and introduced legislation to remove all federal protections so they can be destroyed by local hunters. For the wolf recently seen at the Grand Canyon, who likely traveled through the Utah congressman's district on his way south, that's very bad news. If Bishop gets his way, the Grand Canyon wolf could be gut-shot, trapped, or poisoned by a cyanide land mine in the Utah backcountry.

Not content to take down endangered animals one by one, Bishop and his cronies will use their budget-setting powers to hamstring conservationists' ability to implement the Endangered Species Act. This is a man who wants the Act to die from a thousand cuts.

Your 2-to-1 matched gift to the Center for Biological Diversity's Endangered Species Act Protection Fund can stop Bishop and his Tea Party allies from gutting this lifesaving law.

Yes, we can beat back these attempts to remake wildlands into wastelands -- we've defeated rogues like Bishop and his predecessor Doc Hastings before. We beat back Hastings's vile proposals so often we almost started to feel sorry for him. Almost.

Yesterday was a disaster for wildlife, but we have no time for despair. We hope you'll contribute to the Endangered Species Act Protection Fund to help our fight against the wolf-hating, anti-wildlife fanatics who would trade our wild inheritance to industry special interests for a pot of cash.

To make your gift even more powerful, a generous donor has stepped forward with a 2-to-1 match that will triple every dollar you donate now.

For the wild,
