| President Obama Is Worried About the Bees
Tell him that to protect pollinators, he must consider toxic pesticides!
Dear Indiana,
You've heard from us before about how important bees are to our food system — bees are critical to pollinating and growing our food. But bee populations are shrinking.
President Obama has expressed concern about the issue, but we won't be able to solve the problem unless we address the toxic pesticides that are being used on crops across the country. Tell the President to protect the bees from toxic pesticides!
In response to growing concerns over the declining bee population, the President set up a task force to "promote the health of honey bees and other pollinators." This is a great first step and it brings national attention to the plight of our crucial pollinators. But at this point, it is unclear how this task force will address one of the primary threats to the bees: pesticide exposure.
Ask President Obama to direct his Pollinator Health Task Force to address the impact of toxic pesticides on dwindling bee populations.
More and more studies have shown that bee-harming pesticides are a key part of the problem. These pesticides can impair bees' brain function and immune systems. If we are truly going to protect bee populations, we must tackle the problem of pesticides.
This task force will be completing a report that outlines their findings and suggestions next month, so Food & Water Watch and our allies will be delivering these petitions to President Obama to make sure he understands the role that pesticides play in harming bees. Let's make sure that the task force results in meaningful protections for bees.
Bee populations are at an all-time low, which means that our crops and our food are in danger. To save our food, we must save the bees.
